Don’t Waste Your Money On Diet Drugs! If you’re thinking of using diet pills to help you lose weight, save your money, experts say – because recent research shows that prescription drugs for weight loss are not very effective.
“Diet drugs produce only modest losses in weight and this applies to all such drugs, old and new,” said Dr. C. Keith Haddock, a psychologist at the University of Missouri Kansas City, who headed the study of the drugs’ impact. There was no drug, or class of drugs, that demonstrated clear superiority. And with some weight-loss drugs, their effectiveness diminishes with continued use.”
Dr. Haddock and his colleagues analyzed 108 studies of diet drugs done between 1960 and 1999 and published the results in the February issue of the International Journal of Obesity. They found that drugs used alone resulted in a weight loss of only 4.5 to 9 pounds per individual, with most of the loss occurring in the first 6 months a drug was used.
Combinations of diet drugs such as amphetamine and fenfluramine resulted in greater weight loss – up to 21.1 pounds but many combinations are hazardous, and have been removed from the market, the expert said. | WELCOME NEW EMPLOYEES Sara Imsdahl Our newest Attorney, Ms. Imsdahl will provide outstanding service in Family Law and Criminal Defense/DUI.
